Finally got SCP-5000 to our SCP board game

As I've announced from our Discord server, the next big update happening to this SCP board game is a second "core set" titled:

The Worldstage Set!

Basically, the Worldstage is a standalone expansion to our SCP board game that adds 108 new cards to the game (each current expansion only has 36 cards, so this is a big expansion indeed), with tons of mechanics and gameplay adding to this SCP board game, making everything a little thematically deeper...

Anyway...

This devlog isn't about that, but rather just a little announcement that now we'll be having SCP-5000 soon as part of this SCP board game! Completing the 000 cards from every SCP series!

Before this update, we only have 4 SCP 000 cards: SCP-1000, SCP-2000, SCP-3000 and SCP-4000.

SCP-2000 and SCP-3000 were originally part of a few expansions, before they were removed the current SCP board game because the Thaumiel class makes the game unneccessarily complicated.

Since the Worldstage is meant to offer a lot of new mechanics, it suits Thaumiels (along with Esoterics and Neutralized-class anomalies) better.

It's a shame all the 000 SCPs are not part of the same set/expansion for this SCP board game, but I guess it's bound to happen.

SCP-1000 fits the Wanderer Expansion since by lore it's related to the Serpent's Hand, while SCP-4000 interrupts a lot of the characters that's suppose to make the Wanderer expansion "chaotic".

All that being said, let me introduce our SCP-5000 card!

SCP-5000

This initial iteration of SCP-5000 might get mixed opinions from the game's current main playtesters from our Discord server since, at least for a couple of months before this update, a lot of players are already suggesting SCP-5000 and that it should be a "Scenario card" due to how broad it is and how large-scale its effect is. Some even suggested that SCP-5000 should be an expansion to the SCP board game itself!

Of course, I'll still stand on my goal to this SCP board game by sticking to the fundamental aspects of the SCP wiki, and while being thematic and lore-wise as possible, I'd still want to make things simple and straight forward.

In the case of SCP-5000, in the end, everything in its log is nothing but "history" or even, just "story". It's not even stated in the SCP-5000 wiki article that the SCP Foundation acknowledges some truth behind its logs (at least none that I'm aware of). Also, there seems to be a lot of opinion to the actual lore behind them anyway so why (pun intended) not stick to the fundamental anomaly, right?

Game design-wise though, I think this initial effect is decent and justifies the actual SCP-5000 anomaly itself.

It has the same devastating effects to the game (that scales more as they approach the end game) comparable to current Breach anomalies like SCP-858 ("Gravity's Rainbow") capable of neutralizing every object anomaly or SCP-1000 ("Bigfoot") capable of discarding every civilian except for one.

Of course, what probably makes Gravity's Rainbow and Bigfoot dangerous is for the fact that they're very expensive to contain since they're Keter Anomaly cards.

In the case of SCP-5000 ("Why?"), it's just an Safe Anomaly card, and every player gets to decide its downright effect. So far though based from my experience, I see the game's current playtesters using this effect to Shuffle every nightmare SCP in the game back to the Public pile (the game's deck of Civilian cards) such as SCP-682 ("Hard to Destroy Reptile") or SCP-370 ("A Key").

Will 2000 and 3000 be part of Worldstage (or some future expansion that requires Worldstage)?

Also, there's a 000 you still don't have yet - SCP-000, a Pattern Screamer that emerged from the SCP Foundation's own numbering system.

Yeah, I'm not expecting anyone to ever contain this anomaly.

We can never be certain my friend
