Overview of Expansions [Updated]
This post should be able to give you a rough idea of the current expansions in Uncontained.
The Core Set
Technically not an expansion, I figured I should include this one anyway.
The Core set, as the name implies, is the original deck of Uncontained, composed of 108 cards. You may call this "vanilla" if played without any expansion since a lot of the cards are have simple and straightforward effects. However, there are still a few complicated anomalies hidden in hindsight, such as SCP-2565 "Allison Eckhart", SCP-173 "The Sculpture", SCP-902 "The Final Countdown", and SCP-2584 "Loop Snakes".
The following expansions each contain 36 cards in total, except for the Worldstage Expansion which also has 108 cards like this one.
The Flesh Expansion
The first expansion of Uncontained, the Flesh Expansion is based around the expansive lore of SCP-610 "The Flesh That Hates" and Sarkicism. This expansion introduces the concept of [infected] civilians, which are civilian cards that will allow you to lose the game if you end your turn with only them on your Civilian zone. There's a lot of Sarkic cultist cards distributed as civilians and characters to add dynamic to the expansion.
There are only a few anomalies here, but they fit mechanically and thematically well, such as SCP-049 "The Plague Doctor" which allows you to steal civilians, or SCP-1055 "Bugsy" which punishes everyone that has plenty of civilians per turn. As a result, this expansion is probably the hardest one to play with, and highly encourages players to focus on survival rather than aggression.
Black Moon Expansion
Based on the phrase "Does the Black Moon Howl?" widely used in the SCP Wiki, the Black Moon expansion does not necessarily revolve around specific lore in the SCP Universe, but rather a particular theme: the gruesome fate of humanity.
Like the Flesh Expansion, this one includes a lot of civilians, which makes resource management a lot more vital in the long game. Some of these infected civilians can be quite annoying, such as the Zombies (civilians that you can't Discard unless they're the only ones left) or the Zombie Horde (the more annoying one). However, some of them can be quite useful, like the Winged Mutant which allows you to steal a civilian from other Civilian zones once it's discarded.
The major highlight of this expansion, though, is its powerful Scenario and Anomaly cards that can pose some challenge to everyone. Just to give you an idea, there are five Builder Bear cards included in this expansion!
Researcher Expansion
Unlike the first two expansions, the Researcher expansion takes on a lighter theme: Researchers! Of course, who doesn't love SCP Researchers?
There are 6 types of researchers included in this expansion, such as the Thaumatology Researcher and two specific ones: Dr. Bright and Dr. Zyn. Each of these researchers gives the player utility to the icons of Anomaly cards, like the Unknown Entities Research which gives [entity] anomalies in play a unique Discard effect.
Wanderer Expansion
Based on the SCP Wiki's sister site, the Wanderer's Library, this expansion further expands the "chaotic" nature of the game by creating extreme versions of popular mechanics from the original set. One of these is the Member of the Hand, which basically turns any anomaly as the Hanged King but worst! If you think that's extreme, you just wait before SCP-1000 "Bigfoot" gets drawn!
Moreover, this expansion highly discourages even Containing anomalies at all (unless you have the luxury to do so" since there's a lot of cards that can Uncontain them. Instead, it rewards players with careful judgment and patience for creating clutch last-minute outplays!
Mekhanite Expansion
The Mekhanite Expansion is based on the Church of the Broken God cannon and heavily focuses on [object] anomalies. Unlike the previous expansions which focus on drastically altering the overall difficulty for every player, this expansion gives more room for strategy and outplays in order to win the game.
For example, there are four SCP-882 "A Machine" cards in the game, and getting all of them on your site will give you a unique boost of power. As long as you still make careful decisions, this expansion won't get you to lose early on!
Madness Expansion
If you played the Flesh and Wanderer expansion and think they're crazy, well this one is literally based on the concept of craziness itself! And the expansion name doesn't even lie, playing this expansion would induce madness!
The Madness expansion is based on a particular concept in the SCP Foundation: cognitohazards, infohazards, etc., basically stuff that makes your brain and sanity go haywire. Some of the cards in this expansion are SCP-426 "I Am a Toaster", SCP-035 "Possessive Mask", andSCP-053 "Young Girl".
The mechanics in this expansion are pretty madness-inducing as well, such as the Toaster Madness Scenario which basically makes every civilian card accessible by anyone, or SCP-1839 "Reproductive Methods of Bony Fish" which makes your civilians fishes! Also, don't forget that SCP-2602 "Exbibliothetic", which used to be a library.
Dread & Wonder Expansion
The peculiar expansion in Uncontained, Dread & Wonder is based on three Groups of Interests: Dr. Wondertainment, Herman Fuller's Circus of Disquieting, and Gamers Against Weed.
As an expansion centered around peculiarity and outright weirdness, a lot of cards included have rather bizarre effects, such as Herman Fuller itself that copies a [humanoid] anomaly to every Uncontained zone or SCP-2902 "The Human Skeleton Closet" which allows you to repeated "revive" a anomaly from the Discard pile.
Other than the Little Misters of Dr. Wondertainment, some of the Misters Against Weed are included as well.
