Core Set: Spicy new stuff and R.I.P Base deck

It's a mistake for me to rush to the expansions while leaving the "original deck" unpolished. As you can see on the First Expansion and the Flesh Expansion Beta, they were all "better" than the Base Deck, which is superficially alright, but actually and technically, it's not.

The Base Deck is suppose to serve as the "doorway" for the player to the universe of the game. It should act as a beginner's game, but also give that implication of "easy to play, but hard to master" vibe.  It should give the most optimal fun experience, while being balanced with challenge, depth and overall SCP Lore.

Because of this, I decided to pull all the expansions and leave the Base Deck alone for now for people to focus on playing and testing.

Here's the update

First, the Base Deck would now be called the "Core Set". Most card games call the base deck of their game like that so I don't see any reason to not call ours either.

Second, I've changed the regular Label nodes of the SCP Card Generator into  "RichTextLabels" to allow BBCodes. Now, card texts would have the Keyword bolded and key information italicized, while other rare stuff are properly colored.

Third, a new mechanic called Exhaust/Refresh. Here's its definition:

Exhaust/Refresh: Flip the card face up or down. Face down cards are Exhausted. You may Refresh (thus, un-Exhaust) an Exhausted card by flipping it face up again. You may Refresh any Exhausted card on your site for free during the Action phase as your action. Exhausted civilians can't be Sacrificed, while Exhausted characters can't be Discarded.

I'll be expounding the purpose of this new mechanic later.

Lastly, actual updates to the overall gameplay of the Core Set.

Spicy updates to the Cards

While a significant number of cards were removed to make more room for the civilians, some cards are buffed to balance out the niches the removed cards left. Here are some...

The Ethics Committee Officer

Old:

Active: The number of civilians you need to Sacrifice to Contain an anomaly is reduced by 1.

New:

Active: During the Action phase, instead of Sacrificing civilians to Contain an anomaly, Exhaust them instead.

At first, it may seem like "Exhaust" is a bad shit. In some ways, it may be is. But think of Exhaust as "injuring" your cards, instead of killing them when they're Sacrificed. What would this card do then now is allow you to Exhaust X number of Civilians to contain an anomaly instead of Sacrificing X amount of civilians. This change does ultimately nerf this card, so I might add "Discard" along Sacrifice, but overall, this should increase the challenge.

The Insurgency Mole

Old:

Play: Uncontain any anomaly from any site.

New:

Play: Uncontain an anomaly from any site and shuffle it into the Public pile.

To be honest, this is what I'm excited the most about in this new update. This is literally the SPICY stuff!

Not only you would be  "removing" a Contained anomaly from a player, you're adding them to the only safe zone players can consider: The Public pile. And thinking more about that you probably want to used this more on Keter anomalies, since they give 6 points on the Advanced mode, it would cause chaos on each play.

Depression

Old:

Start: If Contained, Draw once on the Corpse Pile.

New:

Start: If Uncontained, Exhaust a civilian on your site. (You may Refresh an Exhausted civilian as an action during the Action phase.)

This is one of the few anomalies that I changed significantly.

Before, I couldn't really think of a way to implement "sickness" and "disease" to the game. But now, since we have "Exhaust", I don't have to use alternative effects like Discard or the Corpse pile.

I also added some additional information to give the player an idea on what would happen after you Exhaust a civilian.

Labeouf Viewer

Old:

Breach: If Uncontained, Discard a civilian and Neutralize a creature anomaly on your site if able.

New:

Active: If Uncontained, you may Attach this to a creature anomaly. While Attached, treat that anomaly like a single civilian.

Now, this is literally the most drastically changed card, but I like it too since it fits suits its in-universe concept really well while working mechanically to the game!

Anyway, these would the the rest that I can spoil you guys. Please comment your feedback below. Stay tuned for more updates!
