The War of the Flesh is here

It's happening now, guys!!!!

The War of the Flesh is coming, and it's coming very soon!

...actually, it's here already. Just in Beta phase. I'm still waiting for SINSEKAI's update on their Tumblr account.

Anyways, I'm going to tell a few stuff about the expansion.

First, it's a mistake for me to hype everyone on the Discord server that there would be a new mechanic called Infect/Cure. Guys, sorry. It's just that, adding a mechanic as specific as that would be tedious to include, since it's not actually self-explanatory, unlike "Attach/Detach." Also, that would mechanic would just be swaping civilians cards into a new civilian card. So why bother creating a new mechanic for it.

Although the first expansion was great, I personally like this better! Why? I'm going to drop a few spoilers here:

1. The Flesh

Isn't this war one of the most hyping part of the SCP universe? The Flesh vs the Machines. It's like.... it's stripped straight out from an anime or something (which maybe it is). Now, my take on this revolves on SINSEKAI's four artworks for SCP-610 aka "The Flesh That Hates" (which I requested by the way).

Here's the purpose and overall gameplay concept of each card:

  1. The Flesh Man's idea is a card that would just be "dead weight" on your civilian zone. During my playtesting sessions with my colleagues, and everytime I play the digital version, when my civilians reach below 3, things start to feel a lot more tensed, especially that the cards like the Amnestics Specialist can make you easily Discard 2 and other the anomaly Just A Chair makes everyone Discard 2 as well. Now, imagine having 9 Flesh Man on your Civilian zone? How can you contain an anomaly at all? And since now you're at your civilian limit, you can't Draw anymore civilians, forcing you to Draw on the Draw pile.
  2. The Flesh Personnel is similar to the Flesh Man, basically just a counter part. They would just be dead weight on your Personnel zone. They're actually a lot heavier since you can only have 2 in average on your Personnel zone, and since you can't freely Discard it, your personnel zone is locked.
  3. All I can is that the Flesh Beast is pure evil and bad time. Not only you'll be "helping" your opponents on their Flesh man problems, you're adding more of them on your civilian zone.
  4. And lastly, The Flesh that Hates is just a much more nerfed verson of the Flesh Beast.

2. Sarkicism vs the Broken Church

Now, of course, it wouldn't be fun if the Flesh is the only thing wreaking havoc on your tables. We need the "Sarkites" and the Broken church members as well.

3. "Uncontainable"

Sarkicism and the Church of the Broken God aren't the only GOI's in this expansion. Of course not. Why would I have to do that? :D Of course, I decided to add The Serpent's Hand, which would be in conjunction with the Level 4 Researcher.

I think making an anomaly "uncontainable" would be interesting and would further increase the tension that the game currently needs.

Conclusion

Doctor Wondertainment, new researchers and other anomalies are also included already on this beta expansion. Please print the new expansion and let me know what you think on the comments section below!

NOTE: This post would be updated when the art for Mekhane, Yaldabaoth and the Scarlet King is posted by SINSEKAI ;)
